they said in newsday that it could be a raccon that was skinned and has its upper jaw missing... but then again the legs are too long in proportion to the body.
but they're ultimate conclusion is that its a fake and they believe the photo was manipulated with computer software because "the sun would have to be in two places at the same time to get a shadow in one direction on the body and in another direction on the head(maybe that's why the monster also appears to be flipping the bird.)"
oh and turtles don't have teeth either

I want to know why more photos and different angles haven't been released. 'Cause if your at the beach, odds are you have a camera, to catch the fun time. If NOT a camera, at least a phone...
Another possibility, is something someone has done before...stitch up a few animal parts...really well...and there you have it.

Must be an experiment. As a long islander the plum island theory makes alot of sense if not the raccoon. Turtles DO NOT have canine teeth or fur,PLUS the shell of a turtle is attached to the body, remove the shell , expose the meat and organs PLUS the shell is its spine. Definitely NOT a turtle.

The butt of it looks like a pig skin after a pig roast and it probly has four fingers and the other two are just covered by sand and its not a beak cuz you can see its got sharp teeth like K-9s so it looks to me like someone threw a dog of some kind in an oven.

Ok I think it is photoshop. There is only one picture of it floating around the internet it has got to be fake. If this thing actually existed a bunch of people would have gathered around to take pictures or poke it with stick. But that didn't happen. Also like Eric said the bottem half looks bird-like. Looks like the bottom of a chicken without feathers or talons which is odd because a creature like that would need some form of transporting itself from place to place. There is hair on it which doesn't work if this creature is half bird half dog. And also the fingers, they are fish like which also doesn't work well with this creatures physiology. Either way im dubbing this creature BirdDogFish because it's half bird half dog and half fish.

The Bandage looks like something a doctor would use when drawing blood, the monster has an upper beak and lower teetch with a single larger tooth in the center, a stink bug on the monster's shoulder is about 14mm. in length giving a somewhat reference to the length of the monster. The monster's hind right leg appears to be similat to an amputated hunman leg thats healed. Also there are spots below the skin (purple-ish) that appear to be bruises (maybe) Which could conclude that the monster was living at one time but... The outer skin looks to be in perfect condition (except for the neck I can't tell if thats suppossed to be there), Altogether the Montauk Monster has alot of details giving it some proof of being a deceased mammal or a very good hoax. But (which is on my youtube comment) This is the only picture also with no vieo proof which is odd, if this was something of the goverments it wouldn't have been on the beach on that morning or the goverment would have released a press breifing about it.

Ok that thing can NOT be fake, look on its back, theres a FLY! and you can even see the shadow of the fly. and how could someone make something that crazy on the internet? and the band on its arm, maybe that was some kind of restraint for it..because if you look around the band there is stress marks it looks like from pulling on it or something and finally the thing just ripped it or bit it off. It cant be a turtle, their tails arent that long, their feet arent that long, they dont have toes unless they are land turtles otherwise they'd have webbed feet, which is not common in sea turtles. And i wonder why its all bruised up like that on its back, maybe someone beat it or something. Maybe its a mutated animal. Like a dog or something that jumped off a boat and landed or swam through some nuclear dump in the water..and it mutated it. it looks dog-ish to me. Even the back end of the thing looks dog-ish. Idk what to think..im confused. But thats my thinking on it. Or who knows maybe its a new species of animal...that came in from an unknown island..the beak even looks squidish

I was intrigues by the first picture, but the second picture you can tell that the "beak" is just the nose cavity, the snout probably got worn down in the water, leaving the bone and no skin, google carnivore skulls and take a look at on and this things nose.

??????? is right. It is a dead racoon. It has been in the water for about a week. The nose cavity is what a racoon skull looks like. Marine life would eat this first do to the tenderness of the tissue because it is a different skin pigment.The poultry looking underbelly is bigger than normal due to bloating and decomposition,although racoons have potbellys from eating well on dogfood ect if in a suburban area. Racoons have long fingers and look strange in the photos because of bloating and decomposition. In the other photo I saw on your site with the opposite side of the body shows grey furr. This is racoon furr and is of the correct length. Also I used to see a floating racoon in the pond by my bank. They would fall in and couldnt get out. They looked just like this as well as the furr falls out in water because of decompostion. Markuzinho watches to much tv. THis is not a hoax. Just a dead bloated racoon that floated in the hot sun and got bloated for about a week. Nothing more.

The thing you guys are calling a bandage Im not quite sure but it Is most likely a trash bag stuck on its arm or the plastic sealers they use on bulkheads to seal moisture away from the concrete, which is probably what he fell off of by the way to drown. dude its not really that strange. its just a rotting animal. probaly a raccon. and thats not a beak those are canines. the skin has just deteriated from its upper lip. that thing on its arm i dont know it could be anything .probaly a tuff of fur. also how could u even think that was a turlte for one second. turtles cannot "lose" there shells. its a part of them. if u took off the shell u would take its spine with it and it would be very messy and bloody. this thing cleary has a spine. also there is nothing deformed about its right limb. its left limb is just kinda overlapping it, and its right hand is kinda buried in the sand. nothing starnge about this "monster".

This "thing" that washed up on the beach in Montauk may be a movie prop. I have never seen any mammal, amphibian, reptile or avian species that looks anything like this -and I have an animal medicine degree. If it is an "animal" -and I stress IF - it has some unusual features: - no animal has both a beak AND teeth - although it's body resembles a pig, all porcines have hooves on all four feet, like their bovine (cow) relatives - its tail is not common to any known species
(also, if it IS an animal) I noticed other noteworthy details in the picture: - it looks as though it has sustained severe bruising; such bruise marks are always the result of tissue injury before death - the fabric wrapped around the right foreleg looks to be tied around both forelegs (or forearms); as it washed up on the beach, if it was alive, it likely drowned. In this case, it is not outside the realm of possibility that it is an animal hybrid, as such cross-breeding experiments are in existence. I really hope that it's a movie prop, otherwise, it is very very saddening.

It cant be a movie or tv advertisement because lifeguards recovered the body and put it in a large bag were it fully decomposed. In the newest picture it seems like a dogs floating body lost its nose somehow and washed up on a beach. It was probably hit by a boat propeller in the head and had its nose cut off. Just look at the picture its not a beak.

Hm....If it is a turtle, it should be wider, am i right? Turtles shells aren't that thick, the soft shelled turtle is about the only turtle that you can see what a turtles body actually looks like. To be honest, i would totally disregard the turtle statement, in my opinion, it is most likely either a science experiment, or a hoax/viral marketing.
Oh and, they already claimed it to be dead, some kids had the remains in there back yard.
It could possibly be a demon or alien though ?!? If the scientists can't identify its type then this could possibly be on of those forever mysteries :D!

I think that the head looks like a piggish/dog sort of thing with a beak and some jagged teeth. The body looks rather plump and the hind end of the animal looks like a chicken related species with a tail. Oh, and the arms look like some flippers. But, the pigment of the skin is puzzling to me. It appears that there are some sort of bruises on the skin. The arm bands are pretty curious too, it shows them rapped around the forearm area with what looks like two little flaps underneath them. This looks like a costume of sorts or some really bad accident.

I live on LI. I go to Montauk. A lot. Whatever it is, it scares the hell out of me and hits a little too close to home, especially if it's real. If it's a hoax, it's a good one, and it's caused quite a stir- if it is indeed a hoax, I'm sure that was the aim of it. I'm just a humble Long Islander who happened upon this monstrosity in the paper today. A lot of strange things go on in this world. Is anyone really clear about what happens on Plum Island? Yeah, experiments pertaining to animal illness, but nothing's ever been released in real detail. Am I wrong? Sorry if I am. Again. Humble Islander. Stumbled upon it in the paper. And I read that a certain Plum dude claims it's a cat? The article that was included in made it sound like, since he said it, it must be so. Of course he'd make such a claim. Would he admit it's a butchered critter if it was done by his hand or the hand of a fellow? Mmm. Whatever. This whole thing will be forgotten soon, I'm sure. If the government doesn't have it, I'd suggest whoever does to put it up for auction on ebay or something. Make its teeth into necklaces. It'd be a hit.

i think it looks kinda like a cow shaped head, but that doesnt explain thebeak.... i think its some sort of experiment gone wrong, so the government has abandoned it, and they don't want the world to know what they are experimenting on and thats why they havent touched it. Its just my thoughts, but it does make sense that the government doesnt want us to know they are stuffing around with things like this so they say they have nothing to do with it.... this is what i imagine happened theroy 1, family dog buried at sea ( may have not had a yard) theroy 2, that animal testing center was disposing of a dog that they killed and this one drifted underwater to shore

It's not a dead racoon, and it's not a sea turtle. Scientists have proven this. In fact, it's so odd and unexplained that a scientists best guess is that "someone got very creative with plaster." Plaster dissolves very quickly with water. That would mean that, for this scientist to be right, it would have to be have put there at night for it to still look well. (Well by this horrid thing's standards!)
The scientists 'second best' guess is "a decomposed dog with a damaged skul."
Or it could even be photoshopped. The only evidence is two photos. There's no video proof or anything. And it mysteriously dissappeared... One of the 'phototakers' said that her friend - sorry, I forgot his name - brought it to his backyard. "That thing is rotting back there."
Monster or fake? Once again, there's no sure evidence of anything, and it's probaby going to stay that way.

But Wise also offered what he called a next-best guess: "A dog or coyote that was diseased and has been in the sea for a while."
Which is it? Without the body, nobody can say.
Hewitt said she knows where the Montauk Monster rests.
"A guy took it and put it in the woods in his backyard; he has a big backyard," she said. "The thing is rotting there."
But she wouldn't say who; wouldn't say where.
No matter.

I checked the viral site, cryptidsarereal.com, and they have nothing on this. I want to say it is a turtle without it's shell, but one problem with that theory is that you would see the back shredded because a turtle's spine is attached to the shell. so it is not a turtle. i say it is a new species of animal since the ocean is so big that anything rare can come out of no where. but it could be some secret experiment gone wrong as well

So my friend and i are sitting here at work in our danggg cubicles and we come accross this..WE think that its the government. Why wouldnt it be? I mean it has that little band or whatever on its wrist..which doesnt mean much but it makes sense that it was owned by something. Like the government created it and it got loose. This is just a hybrid animal which probably escaped and died!! But you can see easily that the front paw-hands-things- are webbed. I'm not sure, but I doubt that it's an alien, because how the hell could that thing fly a space craft. It's impossible. It must be a creature that someone was experimenting in their own house, like a scientist, and it escaped, that scientist came running after it, and in it's terror the creature flung itself in the water and swam as far as it could to get away, but died because it drowned. But it could be a magical creature from harry potter! yay! I think though that the tail is half-way between a jack russel terrier and a pigs and the main body looks like a pigs. But this is a creature that is really weird. It's like a naked mole rat. ughhh. it has teeth. and it's purply pink. ewww, so gross. those things on it's neck might be gills though that swelled up....got blocked by something maybe. mud? well ok i had 2 turtels and fresh water turtels hav fingers like that and sometimes hav beaks not all fresh water but not all salt water either.I lost 1 of my turtels got lost and they live a long time with out food and a long time period.Fresh water tutrtels hav toes like that but but sea turtels don't.I don't live in New York but it might hav happened to some1 else and u kno animels adapt but not fast.I don't kno it might hav grown bigger for some reason and tried to swim in the ocean and since its a fresh water turtel in salt water it will obviusly die.It might also be some kind of pig becuz if u notice something it has most of the features of a wild pig and they cannot drink salt water so just check if there was supposed to be some new pigs or fresh water turtels coming to a zoo but escaped and its probobly that.I do alot of research for fun but i'm not an export i just noticed some factors.Reply me if u hav any questions or e-mail me at Tspeedy12@gmail.com

I'd have to agree on the Griffin theory, when i first saw it, that's what i thought. It has the beak and the paws, and if you look closely, it may be seaweed but it sort of looks like fur, and the jaw looks like it sort of has caine teeth, and the tail is much to long, like a lions tail, to be a turtle. It's probably a pig from a butcher. That's why he's got a rope around his legs because they hang them up to cut all the guts out. It probably has been in the water too long so the skin has deteriorated off the nose and made the body look discolored and disfigured.

You'd have to be REALLY stupid to think that's a turtle. A turtle doesn't have skin on its back... the shell IS its skin. There's no way to take a turtle out of its shell other than by skinning it. This is just the stupidest idea I've heard in a LONG time.

Thats showing large signs of decomposure from being underwater, its just an animal that has been demcomposed that beak looks more like broken bone, probably where the animal has hit something underwater quite hard and call me stupid or what ever but that doesnt look at all like fingers, just two legs together covered with sand, you got yourself there an animal likfe a dog that has been underwater too long making the body decompose and probably swell a bit making the hair come loose, under water the body takes a total different route to decomeposing to on land. And by the looks of it, it probably died on its back due to the hypostasis on its back and on its hind legs you can see skin palor...

As much as I usually h8 these things cuz there usually fake or a known animal i dont c it (or at least as the known animal goes. It definitely isnt a "deshelled turtle because of its body structure and the fact that the shell of a turtle is attached to its body. As for it being a new organic species I doubt that for once 2 because there has never bin any reports of an animal that looks lik this or the other picture. Leaving a couple of hoaxes, cross breeding animals, or lab experiments. The way the skin ripples at the end makes it look sort of fake though and the very orange eyes dont help its case for being but who knows.

Its a dog ppl! Ears...Its there! Cannine teeth. Snout has been nibbled away by fish. Fur washed away since its dead and also its been in sea water for so long. You can see the paws, they look long cause the damn thing is hairless!

Its obviosly a dog. I you look closely at the 'beak' It greatly resembles what a fleshless snout looks like. If you've ever seen the skull of a similar animal to a dog, you know what i meanPlus the fur that didn't sluff off on the neck.

It's most probably a Pit Bull. The snout is mission, and most of the hair is gone, but otherwise, it's built exactly like a Pit Bull. It was probably floating in the water for a while.

What the hell,
In the "new" picture it looks pretty much like a dog but there are big differences with both the pictures such as tone of the skin and added features , The dead creature grew fucking ears is pretty much what the "new" picture is telling me...... or the "ears" are just folded over :( Anyway , My girlfriend and I are like " what the fuck IS that ? " .

i see your guys' point on it looking like a pit bull... however, it would be more likely that it was a german sheapord... if it were a dog at all. Just hear me out and take a look at the bottom tooth. the front one. then the sides. those clearly aren't dog teeth and i eve went through many stages of possibilities to keep it a dog such as perhaps... whethering or even the snout having to be attacked by something for the whole front snout to be missing. The bottom teeth blew me away though. it's not a dog... I don't think.

as for the thing around it's arm, like the scruff around it's neck, could just be used to cover up the seams where either someone photoshopped two carcasses together, or actually sewed two carcasses together... either points to hoax.
and with your turtle comparison theory... that is a sea turtle, land turtles have different 'arms' but yeah, even land tutle limbs don't look like that.
to me, it most closely resembles a pig. skin and face wise...
but it could also be some sort of fetal animal, it would help if we had some sort of scale to go by... but you know, something that wasn't ready to be born yet. It's "hands" look undeveloped to me.

I have never seen any mammal, amphibian, reptile or avian species that looks anything like this -and I have an animal medicine degree. If it is an "animal" -and I stress IF - it has some unusual features:
- no animal has both a beak AND teeth
- although it's body resembles a pig, all porcines have hooves on all four feet, like their bovine (cow) relatives
- its tail is not common to any known species
(also, if it IS an animal) I noticed other noteworthy details in the picture:
- it looks as though it has sustained severe bruising; such bruise marks are always the result of tissue injury before death
- the fabric wrapped around the right foreleg looks to be tied around both forelegs (or forearms); as it washed up on the beach, if it was alive, it likely drowned.
In this case, it is not outside the realm of possibility that it is an animal hybrid, as such cross-breeding experiments are in existence.
I really hope that it's a movie prop, otherwise, it is very very saddening.
